BackgroundBoophone disticha is a fascinating South African bulb plant that is not completely trivial to grow. It has a bizarre, flat spray of leaves. It is ABSOLUTELY instantly identifiable. Do a google search on it to see what it looks like.I germinated these seeds a few years ago (the seeds came to me from a friend in SoCal). I grew the plants for last winter until they went dormant. This past summer they were dormant, and they just re-emerged about a month ago. Now that the bulbs of these plants are about the size of olives, I figured that I had successfully gotten them to a safe size, and selected several for my own collection. But I have a few spares.I’m not entirely sure if these seedlings will be winter growers or summer growers (there are two strains). For now, I’m just watching the plants, and watering them as long as they have green above-ground parts.One other issue….these are really toxic plants. The name comes from the Latin, something like ox-killer. So don’t chew on it, and if you have pets that gnaw on plants, well, take suitable precautions, ok?I rarely see listings for this plant on eBay, which is a shame, because they are SO FRAKKING COOL! In fact, I’m not super invested in selling these plants because even though they are spares, they are SO FRAKKING COOL. I can’t wait to see them in flower (heh heh, but at this growth rate, I will have to wait). However, if someone is desperate to join the fun, here is a chance for you to get some plants. Small, yes, but if you want to try to buy bigger…you’ll need to find both a seller and a big chunk of spare change.Oh, and when I *DO* see other folks selling this plant, they’re often less expensive, but frankly, about two or more years younger. Make the choice that fits your pocket book and growing area.I am going to ship the plants in the pot, because the roots are somewhat succulent, and I’m afraid they won’t do very well taken out of the pot.If you REALLY want me to send the plants to you bare root, I will, and refund you the shipping you save.I’ll send the briefest of care sheets with the plant, however I am just learning, myself. I grow them in 30% shade during the summer (when they get temperatures up to 115F), but protect them from winter frost. The auction photos are of the exact plants you are bidding on. The information about the plant’s dimensions, and the photographs, were all generated when I listed them. When you purchase this plant, tell me which one you would like. The plants I have available are clearly lettered. I will try to keep this inventory as accurate as I can.I am listing several plants. On Shipping The plants will be shipped in the pot. It’s a tall pot, which makes shipping a little more expensive. If you would prefer I send it bare-root, I will. Please ensure that your shipping address will not expose the boxed plant to extreme conditions. Mailboxes in full sun can become dangerously hot, and I will ship to cold climates at your risk. I can include a heat pack for $3–you can buy a heat pack from me via one of my other listings. If you want one, contact me immediately upon paying for the plant–sometimes I box and ship plants within an hour of receiving payment. This specimen should be considered reasonably pest-free. Note, however, as with all plants, you should take suitable pest precautions when you incorporate them into your collection. Just before I ship the plant, I’ll give it a careful lookover, to make sure it is free of bugs. If I find any problems with the plant, I’ll contact you before shipping the plant, and we can discuss what to do. I do not ship internationally, so non-USA buyers, thank you for not bidding. If there are problems with the plant when it arrives, please discuss it with me so I can make things right with you (instead of giving my eBay account a bad review). I work to fulfill orders as soon as I can.
