I have here for sale a RARE GUIDE TO GANGOR BEAUMARIS, SNOWDONIA AND OTHER PARTS OF NORTH WALES; WITH A MAP ( this is linen backed) IN WHICH THE DISTANCES ARE LAID DOWN by JOHN SMITH. This third edition was published in 1833 by E.SMITH, Liverpool. A real treat- a travelogue of touring Anglesey and North Wales, at the time when the Menai Suspension Bridge is just being completed, and a description of an accident; as one of the workmen painting the bridge falls from the scaffolding. With three narratives of a trips which takes the reader from: Liverpool – Bangor- Menai Straits- Carnarvon Castle – Llanberis Lakes – Snowdon – Conway Castle – Llanrwst- Llangollen – Ascent of SnowdonChain Bridge – Bettws – Pont Aberglaslyn- Grave of the Greyhound – Nant Gwynedd – Capel Curig – Moel Siabod – Conway – Llyn Ogwenvoyage to Beaumaris – Hilbre Island – The Telegraph – Menai Bridge – Bangor – Penrhyn Arms Hotel – Baron Hill – Speech of the king of Hilbre – Arrival at Liverpool Bound in original maroon linen boards. Title lettering on a paper label on the front board. Spine and board edges sunned. Splitting on the front edge of the spine, front board pulling. Label has been removed at sometime from the lower edge of the spine. Age soiling to the boards. Board corners and spine ends are bumped. Label has been removed at sometime from the inside of the front board. Ink marks to the back of the map, they do not transfer to the front.
